This image of me was taken by my sister Anja while our family was vacationing in the Canary Islands. I was photographing the stunning cloudscape (as we were well above the cloud line up in the mountains). I began choosing colors with the skin, which I kept semi-realistic only because I loved the heat and golden coloring the image had. This translated to my hair. I then decided to chose similar (but exaggerated) colors to those you would see in the original photo, in part so I could leave the original behind it. I did this as the softly transitioning colors contrasted with the harsh blocky shapes of the foreground.
As the assignment was to create three tryptics, I had several photos I liked that didn't make the "final cut," as well as several that didn't explicitly fit within the constraints of the assignment. Here they are.
This is the second tryptic in the exposure project.
The goal of this set of photos was to capture motion through the blurring of either the subject or the background. This can be achieved by lengthening the shutter speed and lowering the ios (for the same reasons as the light tryptic photos). The two are essentially the same (because I chose to blur my subject). This is the final tryptic in my exposure series.
The object was to catch motion or movement with no blur and very sharp lines. This is achieved by shortening the shutter speed as much as possible (so the camera only captures a fraction of a second) and greatly increasing both the light source and the iso, as minimal light is let in by the camera because it's only open for such a short time. This is one of three tryptics I've made for our project on exposure.
This assignment was to capture the motion of light, which can be done by lengthening the shutter speed and lowering the ios (the camera will be open much longer, letting more light in). These three photos were made by swinging a strand of multicolored Christmas lights with the camera on a tripod. Quiet is about a research biologist who ventures out into a secluded wooded area to collect samples of a certain plant species that seems only to grow in this particular area. While on his camping trip, he decides to vlog the experience, however strange things start happening, and the chilling first-person perspective and raw footage from the handheld video camera gives the entire found-footage film a very eerie and real atmosphere.
I ended up posting two separate versions because we were required to have two models, but I liked the feeling of the lone person on the left. Follow this link to see my board detailing all kinds of photography lighting equipment and terminology.
